Private Duty - High Times on Blood
"I want to do a scene that will involve the top licking and drinking my blood. I have a complicated medical history and am on some pretty heavy-duty pain meds (I have a high tolerance at this point) and I just want to know if there's a chance that the person drinking my blood will end up getting dosed with my meds? We don't want her to end up drugged or something... Thanks for your advice!"
Before I get into some of my other concerns, let's strictly address your question. You didn't specify what pain medications you are on, but by "heavy duty" I'm going to presume you're talking about narcotics such as morphine, Dilaudid, Vicodin, Percocet, etc. The average adult has 5 liters of blood. This is 5000ml. I can't imagine a blood play scenario that would involve your top drinking more than 50ml of blood (that is a shitload of blood in a scene context) - probably it would be closer to 5ml. So she would at the most extreme levels be drinking 1/100th of your total circulating blood volume, and probably more like 1/1,000th. Additionally, the narcotics you take will spread across your whole body, and only a very small fraction remains in the blood stream. Even if you had enough narcotics in your system to kill a horse, there's no way that your top will get high from drinking 1/1,000th of your blood volume. The only concern I would have is if she has a history of being allergic to the meds in question. There have been case reports of people with peanut allergies so severe that they've gone into anaphylactic shock from smelling peanuts, so if there is any question of allergies, I would abstain from blood drinking.
Having addressed your question, there's a few things I want to check. Your health history which has led to you to these medications presumably doesn't include anything blood-borne, such as HIV or hepatitis? And you've been screened, recently, for any blood-borne diseases, correct? If the medications that you are on also include a chemotherapy agent, I would not risk anyone drinking your blood. Being that you are chronically on narcotics, they likely don't alter your mental status at maintenance doses, but certainly I would advise you to always enter play scenes with a clear head. Be sure that your top uses appropriate clean technique for the blood draw including disinfection, sterile needle and syringe, and single use gloves. After all, if you have chronic health issues, the last thing you need is an infection. Be even more careful if you think about doing more invasive techniques than just a simple venipuncture (such as a cutting) to drain blood. Those cuts can turn into even nastier infections! And one more thing: Remember that if you are on any blood thinners (such as Coumadin, Plavix, or aspirin), any cut or wound can bleed tremendously.
However, beyond that, drinking blood is about as risky as having unprotected oral sex. As long as both of you understand the risks involved and have taken the steps you can to minimize them, enjoy the blood martinis!
